Who We Are

Community Energy Services, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation founded in January 2001 to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy systems in the North Country. CES’s main goal is to reduce energy usage in new and existing North Country buildings by educating people about energy efficiency and improving building efficiency. The staff at CES combines years of experience in the fields of energy efficiency services, networking, community mobilization, communications, media outreach, education, planning and service to the low-income sector, building design and construction, and PV system design and installation.

CES provides educational, informational and technical services to North Country residents to increase comfort, health and safety of their homes while reducing energy costs, giving priority to residents with low and moderate incomes. CES’ education, information and outreach programs include the annual North Country Sustainable Energy Fair & Home Tours; Project Green Teams; green building tours in the spring and fall; energy seminars and events; booths at festivals, home shows and expos; presentations to local governments, clubs, churches, community organizations, professional associations and academic institutions; media releases; websites; and response to individual information requests.

CES is certified and accredited to provide services under the New York Home Performance with ENERGY STAR and ENERGY STAR-Labeled Homes programs. CES technical services include comprehensive energy efficiency assessments of single-family and multi-unit residential, small commercial and mixed-use buildings; assistance with new home design and certification of ENERGY STAR-Labeled Homes; and general contracting.

CES is incorporated in the State of New York under Section 402 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, and has 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service. CES has two full-time staff (Executive Director and Director of Technical Programs), two part-time staff (Office Manager and Events Coordinator), and one part-time Contractor (Project Green Teams Manager). The main office is located in Canton (Pyrites).
